90 years of CIF and 90 special projects in the latest edition of Construction magazine – out now

by | Sep 19, 2025

I am delighted to share this very special edition of Construction in honour of the Construction Industry Federation’s 90th anniversary. Celebrations first kicked off in May, when the federation officially marked nine decades of industry representation.

The CIF was first founded in 1935 by a group of builders who had previously established various master builders’ associations in Dublin, Cork, Drogheda and Dundalk. Their inaugural meeting was held in the capital at 60 Dawson Street.

Fast forward a significant number of years, add a couple of actual kilometres, and in 2025 the CIF, supported by its ever-growing membership, has gone from strength to strength in championing industry interests via its headquarters at Construction House on Canal Road.

To honour this milestone achievement ahead of CIF’s Annual Conference at the indomitable Croke Park on September 30, the Construction magazine team has created a very special projects list, featuring ninety incredible projects delivered by CIF members across Ireland.

Truth be told, we could easily have filled three times the pages given the calibre, variety and groundbreaking nature of projects over the decades.

From iconic and pioneering buildings to award-winning developments, critical infrastructure and more, delving into the heritage and history of Irish construction has made for a captivating and engaging journey through the built environment. I hope it sparks lively interest and friendly debate amongst our readers.

On a final note, having had the pleasure of speaking with CIF Director General Hubert Fitzpatrick for this edition, we congratulate him on his upcoming retirement this month and wish him the very best. You can read Hubert’s farewell interview on page 6.

I hope you enjoy reading this bumper issue of Construction as much as we did creating it.
