Championing industry skills, training and recruitment in the latest edition of Construction magazine – out now

by | Aug 29, 2024

We are delighted to welcome you to the latest edition of Construction magazine where we focus on industry skills, training and recruitment.

Encouraging talented people to join the sector is paramount to future success. The CIF champions this ethos through its Learning and Development team, led by Conor Greham.

On page 34 Conor talks about how the federation’s considered programmes are meticulously designed to cater to evolving needs and ensure the workforce remains competent, compliant and capable of delivering high-quality work.

People will always lie at the heart of construction and encouraging the next generation, and those with transferable skills, to consider careers within the built environment is more crucial than ever.

With innovation and technology playing an ever-growing role in how we build, future skills and lifelong learning in construction have never been as important.

A review released this summer by the University of Cambridge shines a light on how the industry has had a history of being slow to adopt and adapt to new technologies relative to others.

However, it also states that by recognising challenges, leaders can find ways to drive transformation and change.

The Smart Off-site Association (SOSA), a constituent of the CIF, is one example of this. SOSA is championing the advancement of off-site manufacturing in construction.

We meet its president Brian Kennedy and others to find out more. Head to page 26 to read our cover story.

We are delighted to also launch this year’s CIF Safety Campaign, which will run over two weeks from October 14 – 25, retaining last year’s successful theme, focus on critical risks. You can learn more about this essential and worthy campaign, and find out how you and your company can get involved, on page 15.

We look forward then to our next edition in October, when we will continue to focus on a vital aspect of the industry, Health & Safety. Until then, we hope you enjoy the stories that follow.
