There is an opportunity to collectively harness industry potential
I am delighted to welcome the 2025 edition of Construction magazine’s Top 50 Contractors – a celebration of excellence in our industry. The 2025 Top 50 Contractors list offers a valuable insight into the construction industry’s performance over the past year, highlighting key trends and growth areas of leading firms.
It reflects how the sector has responded to rising demand, navigated ongoing challenges, and continued to play a central role in Ireland’s economic development.
Congratulations to this year’s top five companies. John Sisk & Co, Mercury Engineering, Winthrop Technologies Ltd, Collen and Jones Engineering who lead the pack in terms of turnover, reflecting their strong market position, sustained growth, and ability to deliver major projects at scale.
The performance of these top five companies, and indeed all those featured in this year’s list, underscores the commercial strength and strategic importance of the firms driving Ireland’s
construction industry forward. Together, they represent a sector marked by leadership, innovation, and a capacity to deliver at scale both nationally and internationally.
The Construction Industry Federation Top 50 Contractors 2025 have a total turnover of €20.85billion for 2024, an increase on the previous year’s €17.77billion. A total of €12.39billion in construction activity was recorded in Ireland, up from €11.34billion in the previous year.
The Top 50 contractors exported over €8.56billion in construction expertise, compared to the previous year’s €6.43billion.
The publication of the Top 50 Contractors list is a clear refection of the health, strength, and resilience of Ireland’s construction industry, one of the country’s largest and most vital sectors. At a time of intense demand, with Ireland striving to deliver the housing and infrastructure required for a growing population, construction sits firmly at the heart of national progress.
This list reflects an industry that is not only well-equipped to meet these demands, but also defined by its exceptional skill, innovation, ambition, and vision.
Irish construction companies are recognised globally, as demonstrated by this year’s strong export turnover, yet it is equally critical that we create the conditions to allow these firms to thrive at home.
As CIF President Stephen McCarthy outlines on page 22, ensuring a supportive domestic environment is key. The sector now employs 181,500 people, according to the latest Labour Force Survey for Quarter One 2025, highlighting the continued growth and strong appeal to new talent.
To fully harness the industry’s potential in supporting Ireland’s economic and social development, we must work collectively to remove barriers and enable construction to remain a cornerstone of national competitiveness.
