Commercial partnership
In Walls Construction safety is a core value enshrined in every aspect of our business and supporting wellness and mental health is a key health and safety objective within the company, our supply chain and other stakeholders. This support includes our external involvement with specialist organisations and in national events supported by the CIF and its partners.
Walls is a long-term supporter of the Lighthouse Club Charity (LHC), the recognised construction charity in Ireland providing support to all construction workers and their families and we are delighted to offer tangible assistance by way of fundraising, sponsorship, and raising awareness on all our sites.
Additionally, Walls’s Health and Safety Manager, Alan Worrall, is the charity’s vice chair and has enthusiastically served on its committee for many years.
On those occasions when the LHC visit Walls construction projects, its teams include speakers who engage with the workforce and are willing to share their own stories and experiences, which regarding wellness is very important as it encourages a level of openness and discussion that hasn’t existed previously.
We support by ensuring contact details for the Lighthouse Club are highlighted on site notice boards and in toolbox talks. Also, we have welcomed the LHC Make it Visible van to our sites and the level of interest and large numbers in attendance is a clear indication this resource is much appreciated, and as part of CSC 25 in October, we were delighted that the LHC van was located at one of our major projects.
In 2021, Walls entered a partnership with I Am Here, an evidence based mental health and wellbeing organisation whose services includes providing dedicated speakers and support, both in our offices and on our construction sites.
To augment their work, several Walls staff have been trained as ‘I Am Here’ ambassadors, providing support and sign posting to staff and site-based workers as required, including contact numbers and displaying the charities QR code.
During the CIF 2024 construction safety campaign and in previous campaigns we dedicated one of our health and safety themes to mental health. This included webinars and specialist talks across many aspects of mental health, with speakers being provided with time during working hours to enable staff and management to attend.

Let’s Be Safer Together
This Behaviour-Based Safety programme (BBS) developed in-house and launched in April 2024, continues to grow and with increased worker participation is having a positive impact in reducing incidents on our sites. The programme covers many topics including worker engagement, safety culture, and awareness of the supports available such as through I Am Here and the Lighthouse club.
We also encourage all those who attend to participate in our Great Catch Card scheme, a Safety Observation Report/SOR via a QR code and this year we have seen a significant increase in our Great Catch reporting.
In 2025, we participated in National Wellbeing Day. Again, we were thrilled to team up with our mental health and wellbeing partner, I Am Here and several projects were visited, resulting in excellent engagement with our supply chain and employees.
Leading from the front
Our senior management engagement walks, alongside bimonthly safety leadership meetings on all active sites, sets the safety health and wellbeing awareness standard across the business, as being visible on site, listening to concerns and recognising proactive safety performance creates positive communication and consultation while demonstrating leadership commitment.
To conclude, Walls prides itself on adopting an innovative approach to health and safety, especially mental health and wellness, and we continue to identify new ideas or ways to engage with all staff and workers.
We understand that taking time out to have a conversation and put into practice what we have learned about mental health and wellbeing, goes a long way towards creating a positive work environment for our employees, our subcontractor partners and others, their families and the wider community.
