The start of the new year provides an opportunity to assess the priorities that lie ahead for the construction sector, allowing us to define our objectives and set the direction for our members and the industry in the year to come.
As we enter 2025, I am delighted to welcome our new President, Stephen McCarthy, who begins his two-year term at the helm of the Construction Industry Federation.
Representing the collective voice of our members, Stephen, who is owner of Astra Construction in Cork, brings a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our industry and will be instrumental in championing the vital role construction plays in shaping Ireland’s future.
We are immensely grateful to outgoing president, Joe Conway of Dornan Construction, for his leadership and dedication during his tenure, which saw advancements in our strategic pathway, member engagement and advocacy.
Looking back on 2024, we’ve made significant strides in highlighting critical infrastructure issues that directly impact housing supply, FDI and the population’s well-being.
From water to electricity networks and roads, we have drawn attention to the urgent need for investment in the very foundations of sustainable national development.
These challenges remain unresolved as we move into the new year, and the need for practical, actionable solutions is more pressing than ever.
With a new government term beginning, we are presented with an important opportunity to inject renewed energy into addressing these systemic issues. CIF members are uniquely positioned to inform this agenda.
Your first-hand experience of roadblocks in infrastructure delivery, paired with real, effective solutions, gives us a powerful voice in shaping policy that works for Ireland’s future.
We are committed to engaging constructively with the new government and trust in their commitment to delivering outcomes that benefit the entire country.
As a federation, we will continue advocating for solutions that balance the needs of our members with the demands of sustainable growth and infrastructure development.
In 2025, CIF proudly celebrates a momentous milestone – our 90th anniversary. Founded in 1935 by a visionary group of construction leaders, the federation has grown into one of Ireland’s most enduring, influential, and largest membership organisations.
Over the past nine decades, our members have played a pivotal role in shaping Ireland’s built environment, from trusted, multigenerational family businesses to innovative new enterprises driving the industry forward.
As we commemorate this significant anniversary, we look forward to celebrating with our members, reflecting on the remarkable achievements of the past, and setting our sights on the promising future that lies ahead.
This special occasion is both a tribute to our shared legacy and an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to progress and excellence in the construction industry.
This year also brings an exciting programme of events and activities for our members. Networking remains a cornerstone of our industry, enabling businesses to share insights, foster partnerships, and drive progress.
We encourage all members to participate in the many events we have planned nationwide, strengthening the connections that are so vital to our sector’s success.
The CIF Training Academy will continue to deliver an exceptional range of courses tailored to the evolving needs of construction companies.
Keeping skills and competencies up to date is crucial in an industry where regulations and technologies are constantly changing. We’re proud to support members and non-members alike in thriving in this dynamic environment.
Auto-enrollment in pension schemes is set to take effect this September. We remind members that the CIF Pension Administration Services (CPAS) is a key element of our support and is ready to assist you in preparing for this important transition through our portfolio of pension services.
Inside this issue of our magazine, you’ll hear from members of the CIF team about their outlook for the year ahead.
From employment and contracting to health and safety and sustainability, our professional services are designed to meet the diverse
needs of our members.
Your success is our success, and we are here to listen, to represent your concerns, and to help your businesses grow.
As we embark on this new year, I want to thank each of you for your contributions to our industry and for your continued engagement with CIF. On behalf of the CIF team, I wish you and your businesses continued growth and prosperity in 2025.
